MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE

Now that the riding season is in full gear, Two Wheel Legal Services urges you to consider the following three points before getting on your motorcycle:

1. If I was to be injured on my motorcycle, how are my medical bills going to get paid? Since a motorcycle is different from an automobile, you do not have the luxury of what is commonly referred to as Personal Injury Protection (P.I.P.) coverage. Do I have insurance through work or family members which will pay for my medical bills in case i am injured?

2. Do I have the best possible motorcycle insurance coverage available? Many companies will only issue a $15,000.00 policy for your motorcycle. If you own automobiles in addition to your motorcycle, see if you can get your motorcycle picked up under your automobile policies. This can provide you with additional coverage beyond the minimum amount available.

3. If you own an automobile, it is imperative that the amount of insurance you have available is in excess of the minimum requirements of the state of New Jersey. By increasing your insurance limits on your automobile coverage, you also should be increasing your uninsured and underinsurance motorist protection which will provide you with additional monies in case you are injured on your motorcycle through no fault of your own. These monies that will potentially be paid to you will not cover your medical bills, but will cover your bodily injuries which include your pain and suffering.
